Iranian researchers at the Islamic Azad University, Science and Research Branch, in Tehran, assisted by scientists at the country's Pastor Institute have done extensive theoretical and practical research into the effects of plasma in the treatment of breast cancer. captureThus far, research studies have revealed that it is indeed possible to use plasma as an alternative treatment for breast cancer. The results showed that the cold plasma is capable of destroying cancer cells in the cellular cultivation phase. One of the advantages of using plasma treatment is that it does not damage the healthy cells in comparison to chemotherapy which affects both healthy and cancerous cells in the body. Farahnaz Yazdan-Talab, a prominent researcher in these laboratory studies, said that a lot of work had gone into conducting the studies which are entitled 'Investigating cold atmospheric plasma in treating breast cancer.' captureThe goal of this research project was to examine the curbing growth of breast cancer cells using cold atmospheric plasma jet. The studies were carried out using the MDA-MB-231 cancer cell lines. The experimental results indicated that the cold plasma had no effects on the healthy breast cells whatsoever. Furthermore, in using plasma radiation, cancer cells were destroyed within ninety seconds. The success of the recent studies has been phenomenal, putting plasma treatment in line to be the method which could ultimately replace chemotherapy.
