London Graduate Fashion Week featured Somerset College Undergraduates students including Tara Farbahi, who showcased their amazing collections. The College held their very own catwalk event during London Graduate Fashion Week. Somerset College student Tara has earned a BA (Hons) Design (Fashion) and makes up one of the 19 college designers who are presenting their work at the well-known fashion event. CaptureTara's collection illustrates a sculptural couture garment. Her work is inspired by the likes of Persian architecture. Tara holds a great passion for her line; she describes it as a 'stunning masterpiece that will shine on the catwalk underneath the bright lights and music.' Tara, along with other students was seeking to triumph against more than 1,000 to be awarded the £20,000 River Island Gold Award winning prize. However, aside from the big prize money, people were there to show their skills to the world, in the industry that they are passionate about conquering. This year, Somerset College are celebrating their ninth year appearing at the event. They have worked incredibly hard to gain a spot in the highly competitive London Graduate Fashion Week. Gary Mills is the fashion tutor that helps guide the successful students at Somerset College. He acknowledges how they are a small college, and extremely proud to have their spot on the main catwalk alongside many other great companies including Manchester Metropolitan, Northumbria and London College of Fashion universities. Every year the students work dazzles on the central catwalk. The college has gained an outstanding reputation for performing well at the event. They have received some significant awards in the past including the Visionary Knitwear Award in 2007 and the Young Designer of the Year at Clothes Show Live and EuroSkills gold medals in 2008. The current year graduates are equally as talented. The talented designers will showcase their collections to the fashion world with confidence and creativity. The event is a perfect launch pad for their career paths.
