When Yasmine Taeb left Iran and arrived in the United States, she was faced with the difficult challenges of being an immigrant. Her experience influenced her to advocate for people in similar situations.
Taeb is a passionate human right and civil liberties activist. She strives to deliver a unique interpretation to politics by standing as a member of the Democratic National Committee. Taeb was elected to be one of five DNC seats in Virginia.
Taeb was forced to escape from Iran with her mother, two brothers, and sister during the war between Iran and Iraq. They fled with the hope of uniting with their father in the U.S. They embarked on a long and dangerous journey. They traveled from Turkey to Mexico when her mother paid for a smuggler to get them across the border, disaster struck.
The family was terrified of being captured. Taeb recalls the moment she realized that U.S. authorities caught both the smuggler and her nine-year-old sister. She clearly remembers officials shouting from a helicopter to come out of hiding. She saw tears streaming down her sister's face. The horrendous experience has shaped Taeb's entire life.
The whole experience meant Taeb was very aware of politic matters from an early age. She was determined to work towards fostering the world where others wouldn't have to endure the same ordeal that her family had to. Taeb took an interest in politics, especially areas concerning policy advocacy and the policy-making procedure.
Today, Taeb serves as Legislative Representative for Human Rights and Civil Liberties at the Friends Committee on National Legislation (FCNL), which is based on Quaker principles. She has previously worked for the Center for American Progress among other job roles.
In regards to her career, she has focused on projects concerning human right disputes. She honestly believes that equality is critical to advancing prosperity. She argues that all people should have the opportunity to be the best version of themselves. For that to happen, a more fair and egalitarian society is required.
Taeb has fought all rivals when it comes to the rights of immigrants. She has actively worked towards including communities of all colors during the political process. She argues that America should aim to set an international example by welcoming immigrants and displaced people. After all, such behavior is what America was founded on and has helped shape the country.
She cites her earlier undocumented experiences as an immigrant as the reason she is so passionate about such issues. She is determined to be the voice of all people who are in the same situation today. She wants to help make people listen to the voices that are often ignored and marginalized by the people of society with power.
With genuine compassion and understanding, people believe that Teab can be the one to help raise awareness relating to the treatment and lives of immigrants which will, in turn, lead to positive outcomes for all.
