The Persian New Year, also known as 'Mehregan' is the fall festival and has been celebrated by Persians for thousands of years. The festival marks the first day of fall and is enjoyed by many groups of people in the Middle East, Central, and South Asia, but mostly by Persians. This year, Santana Row and the Iranian Federated Women's Club (IFWC) partner together to celebrate the arrival of fall and the 2016 Persian Fall (Mehregan). The event will take place on Thursday, September 22, 2016, at Park Valencia, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The public will be able to see live performances by nationally-acclaimed Persian musicians and artistic performers. In addition to the concert, Persian food and drinks will be served. Here is some background information about the performers one can expect to see this year: [caption id="attachment_2610" align="alignleft" width="240"]Capture Mohammad Nejad[/caption] Mohammad Nejad was born to musical parents in Tehran and plays multiple musical instruments. From his time as a young child, classical music was introduced to him by his father. In high school, he attended a school for musicians in Tehran, and later graduated from the Fine Arts Academy in 1976. In 1990 he went on to earn a Bachelors of Fine Arts Musicianship and Performance from Tehran University. Nejad was fortunate enough to have been taught by some of the greatest teachers of Persian classical music, who have made him the musician he is today. He was born with a natural talent for music, but also studied musical education in Iran, Europe and the United States, which has taken him to the "height of his profession." His passion and enthusiasm for music are unrivaled, being both a great performer and leader. Moein Vahdat is a great pianist who will be performing this year. He has played the piano for eighteen years and has been the keyboardist for several famous Iranian musicians at their concerts. Nowadays he also hosts and directs many events. Vahdat is familiar with both Middle Eastern and Western music and has played other instruments and tutored students for ten years. This talented musician is a great solo artist and a keen band member as well. Sabiba will dance the night away as she celebrates with guests at the festival this year. She is a talented dancer, covering many genres including jazz, flamenco, and Middle Eastern belly dance. Sabiba also teaches dance interpretation. Although her dancing takes up a fair amount of her time, Sabiba practices as a Registered Dietician during the day. She loves her job, but her heart has always leaned more towards dancing.
